Finding very little grip on wide summer tyres on last winters roads. I had to go miles out of my way to avoid even minor hills. Researched winter tyres, having seen how effective they were on cars in alpine areas. Decided on Krisalp HP 2 based on reviews availability and price.I fitted to original focus alloys while refurbishing my oz alloys. Grip on ice & snow was uncanny & hills no longer a problem. I Will fit winter tyres for Autumn and winter from now on. (reportedly they have advantage even up to 7 deg.C)Consider fitting these before buying a 4x4, because in my opinion, 4 wheel traction over 2 can be an advantage to get you moving, but when it comes to stopping they all have the same 4 wheel brakes, and I believe the car on winter tyres being lighter and having less momentum must be able to change direction and stop better than a heavier 4X4 on normal tyres, & perhaps even on winter tyres.(There's one for Top Gear to put to the test).
